Russian lips

A lip filler technique that lifts and defines rather than simply adding volume, for a soft result that still looks like you.

Russian lips are a technique rather than a different product. Using hyaluronic acid filler placed in small, controlled amounts, the lip is built upward to add height and definition, lifting the shape and sharpening the Cupid's bow.

The result is shape and balance rather than forward projection: fuller-looking, defined lips that still read as your own. It suits lips that are naturally flatter, or that you would like to lift and lengthen.

How it works

Filler is placed vertically in fine amounts, working from the body of the lip up toward the border. This builds gentle support that lifts and shapes the lip from the front while keeping the profile flat, rather than spreading volume horizontally for a rounder, more projected look.

What to expect

Treatment usually takes around 30 to 45 minutes, as the technique uses a number of small injection points. A numbing cream is applied first and most modern fillers also contain a local anaesthetic, so discomfort is usually mild. Afterwards expect some swelling, tenderness and possible bruising; lips can stay swollen for up to a week, and the final shape is best judged once that settles.

Results

Hyaluronic acid lip filler typically lasts around 6 to 12 months before it is gradually broken down by the body, depending on your metabolism and the product used. Definition is often built up over more than one appointment to reach the look you want.

Who it is for

Adults who want more definition, balance or height rather than a large, projected pout. It may suit you less if you already carry a lot of existing filler. Suitability, and anything to avoid such as pregnancy or breastfeeding, is confirmed at your consultation.

Your safety

Done properly, by someone qualified.

Hyaluronic acid filler is temporary and can be dissolved if needed. As with any filler there are risks, including the rare but serious blockage of a blood vessel, so it should only be carried out by a trained, insured practitioner who can recognise and manage complications. Tell your practitioner straight away about any unusual or increasing pain, or skin colour changes, after treatment.

Common questions

How are Russian lips different from normal lip filler?
It is a technique, not a different product. Filler is placed vertically to lift and define the lip and sharpen the Cupid's bow, rather than spreading volume horizontally for a rounder, more projected result.
Will my lips look big or overdone?
No. The technique is designed for height and definition rather than forward volume. If you want a larger, rounder result, a different technique may suit you better, and Demi will talk this through at your consultation.
How long does the swelling last?
Lips usually feel sore and look swollen for a few days, and swelling can take up to about a week to settle. The final shape is best judged once it has gone down.
How long do the results last?
Around 6 to 12 months, as the filler is gradually broken down by your body. The exact time varies from person to person.
